Create.

The Practice of Investing Energy.

  • What does it mean to create?

  • In what ways do you invest your energy?

Creation can be shaped in many forms.

Artistic Expression. Kitchen adventures. Gardening experiments.

Parenting.

Relationship-ing.

Living.

These are all creative endeavours.

But do we often conceive of these fundamental aspects of our lives as creative acts?

How might our energy shift if we began to see our lives as a canvas awaiting our creativity?

The art of living.

We can become blinded by the grind.

Many of us can become disempowered by the limitations of left-hemisphere living.

Yes, there is an important place for analytics, process, logic, reason, strategy, and practicality.

However, we can lose sight of the fact that infusing our lives with creativity, artistic expression, intuition, and passion are of equal importance.

I never thought of myself as particularly creative…

There are those who paint masterpieces, sculpt with perfection, compose effortlessly, and sing as though united in a chorus of angels. I admire these individuals. I greatly appreciate the gifts they offer the world. These individuals reside far from me on the spectrum of creative giftedness.

  • I sing in the shower and when I ready my babies for bed, but I have always felt my voice was not fit for public places. Even using my voice to share my ideas, my perceptions, my experiences felt (and continue to feel) perpetually inadequate.

  • I draw bubble letters, colour a mean meditative colouring sheet, and play with words in poetics and prose, but I stifled this mode of expression by relegating it to spaces I visited when “I have time”. The time never presented itself; the to-do list always took priority.

  • I enjoy decorating my spaces… finding ways to entice my aesthetic eye, design how energy flows through a room, activate my olfactory system with essential oils, or finding other ways to connect with my senses has always been a creative endeavour for me. My parents used to offer an exasperated sigh whenever they walked into my bedroom during one of my many re-decoration adventures. My children now offer similar feedback.

And yet, I continue to sing.

In fact, I am practicing using my voice in more public (and intimidating) ways!

And yet, I continue to carve space to craft bubble letters and beautify a mean meditative colouring sheet.

In fact, I practice prioritizing investing more of my time in these seemingly meaningless and pointless ways.

And yet, I tackle each space I occupy with a creative eye and energy of design.

In fact, as I recently settled into my new-to-me home, my living room has already experienced three reconfigurations.

Perhaps life is all meant to be a creative work-in-progress?

We are each offered the gift of breath when we enter this world, and this gift animates every move we make until the day we die.

How do you want to invest your breath?

How might you infuse creativity into each breath?

And how might channeling your creative life-force inspire you to design a more meaningful and joyful journey through this life?

Herein lies the power of creativity:

WE HAVE THE POWER TO COLOUR OUR LIVES & DESIGN HOW WE INVEST OUR BREATH
